Classic Chili

Looking for a hearty meal for a cold day that is both comforting and easy to make, then you’ll love this recipe for Classic Chili. With tender ground beef simmered in a rich tomato and bean sauce with your favorite seasonings and spices, this dish is sure to warm you up on a chilly day.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed or stewed tomatoes
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Brown ground beef and saute onion in a large saucepan over medium heat for about 6 minutes. 
  2. Once meat is browned and the onion is softly, stir in tomato sauce, kidney beans, stewed tomatoes with juice, and water. 
  3. Season with chili powder, garlic powder, sumin, salt, and black pepper. 
  4. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and let simmer for 15-30 minutes.
  5. Serve over rice, with corn bread or chips, or over hot dogs.

Substitutions

  • Canned green chilis would be a great twist to this chili!
  • Top with sour cream, cheese, or green onions
  • To make vegetarian, add a variety of beans instead of the beef.
  • Ground pork, turkey, or chicken could work as well.
