Classic Chili

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed or stewed tomatoes
- 1 ½ cups water
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp cumin
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Brown ground beef and saute onion in a large saucepan over medium heat for about 6 minutes.
- Once meat is browned and the onion is softly, stir in tomato sauce, kidney beans, stewed tomatoes with juice, and water.
- Season with chili powder, garlic powder, sumin, salt, and black pepper.
- Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and let simmer for 15-30 minutes.
- Serve over rice, with corn bread or chips, or over hot dogs.
Substitutions
- Canned green chilis would be a great twist to this chili!
- Top with sour cream, cheese, or green onions
- To make vegetarian, add a variety of beans instead of the beef.
- Ground pork, turkey, or chicken could work as well.
